Our History

Listening to God’s word and moving through His power is in our DNA. Since our inception, we have been called by God to build a VIBRANT, LOVING and DIVERSE community reflective of the love Christ has for us and committed to transforming communities and families one person at a time. Here’s a glimpse at some of the key moments in our journey.

2014

A New Beginning!

  • New Beginnings Community Church (NBCC) was born on April 13, 2014 in Mountain View, CA!
  • Vision Pillars ignited
    • Reaching People Who Feel Far From God
    • Transforming Communities
    • Making Disciples
    • Building Families

2015

A Year of Firsts:

  • First Easter Outreach at the Flint Center with 3,400+ people in attendance
  • NBCC launched Transforming Communities by mobilizing hundreds of volunteers who donated thousands of hours to serve Bay Area nonprofits and schools.
  • First Missions trips to the Philippines and Greece

2016

Responding & Reaching Out:

  • ‍Pastor Hurmon and Dr. Rhonda Hamilton led NBCC’s first Married Life Retreat, “How to Build a Better Marriage” with 120 couples in attendance.
  • Pastor Hurmon’s “Champions” series challenged our community to break down racial boundaries in response to police violence and country-wide shootings.

2017

On the Move:

  • ‍NBCC relocated from the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Mountain View to Congregation Beth Jacob in Redwood City.
  • A vision team from NBCC, led by Pastor Hurmon, traveled to Guatemala to partner with the founders of My Special Treasures Education Center in transforming communities.

2018

Growing Strong:

  • We engaged the youth in service across the church, impacting Worship Gatherings and outreach events, and introduced them to meaningful service through their first missions trip in Dinuba, CA.
  • We launched our first NBCC mobile app and expanded our social media reach.
  • Nearly 50,000 people discovered NBCC via Google Search.

2019

Momentum & Milestones:

  • We took significant steps to deepen our care for people by:
    • Launching our first-ever Men’s and Women’s Retreats, led by Pastor Hurmon and Dr. Rhonda Hamilton respectively
    • Partnering with Stephen Ministry to establish a compassionate, volunteer-led care and support network for our community
  • NBCC celebrated 5 years of ministry!

2020

Responding to Global Change:

  • We focused on community support and digital engagement by distributing over 120K masks, providing disaster relief, aiding small businesses and local churches, transitioning to online ministry, and hosting webinars on mental wellness, domestic violence, and social justice.

2021

Post-Pandemic “New Normal”:

  • In-person gatherings resumed and the San Jose campus launched on July 13, 2021
  • NBCC hosted a faith-based COVID and mental health conversation with U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy
  • As we transitioned to post-pandemic life, NBCC united all campuses in person to celebrate, laugh, and connect across generations.

2022

Expanding our Reach:

  • NBCC collaborated with local ministries through Share & Serve and provided aid to families impacted by mass shootings and war in Uvalde, Ukraine, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

2023

Leading the Way:

  • ‍NBCC hosted the first Church in the Park with over 500 in attendance at Mitchell Park in Palo Alto
  • NBCC joined the Bay Area “Explore God” campaign, sparking hundreds of faith-centered conversations and leading to the baptism of 24 new believers.

2024

Reflecting, Reaching, Rejoicing:

  • As NBCC celebrates ten years and looks ahead, we’ve launched live streaming, introduced a new season of men’s, women’s, and young adult ministries, and unveiled a fresh new look, all while impacting families across the Bay Area.
