A prayer from Pastor Hurmon

God, our strength and our shield,

Today, I join with countless others in asking You to cover with mercy and grace those affected by the fires raging in Southern California. Provide a way of escape for those in danger, and help them find peace in Your word: “This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; my God, in whom I trust.” (Psalm 91:1-2)

Please comfort those grieving the loss of loved ones, and grant swift healing to the injured. Watch over the first responders, especially the firefighters who defend and rescue others at great personal risk. Grant them wisdom and strength to fight the fires effectively and to minimize further loss of life.

As You rebuked the wind on the Sea of Galilee, please calm the wind gusts that are spreading these fires. Last but not least, I ask that You provide for the immediate needs of those forced to abandon their homes and, in time, restore what has been lost to the fire.

All of this I pray in the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ,
