Continuing in the Character Matters series, Pastor Tilden focuses this message on humility. While at first, it might be easy to assume that humility does not matter in today’s age of self-promotion, Godly humility is a quality that Jesus used to change the course of history, and a key reason why people were drawn to him in his earthly ministry.
Jesus’s version of humility differs from self-promotion because Jesus was bold in his faith in God and his commitment to his ministry, but also spent time and care with those who were at the margins of society. Godly humility is in uplifting others, rather than focusing on ourselves. It also means showing restraint and submitting to God and God’s will for us, rather than focusing on our will for ourselves. Finally, Godly humility is being so secure in who we are in God that we are able to think of others more, and ourselves less.
