Should I Feel Ashamed?

Hurmon Hamilton

In the second message of the “Should I?” series, Pastor Hurmon prays for and speaks to those who are feeling guilt or shame as a result of grief. Quoting from scripture, he reminds us that the hope of Jesus’s crucifixion, death, and resurrection equip us to deal with our grief, guilt, and shame. He encourages us to name our guilt and shame, and to categorize it as reasonable or unreasonable. Where our guilt is reasonable, we should confess our shortcomings to God, receive His forgiveness, reframe our stories, and forgive ourselves. Where our guilt is unreasonable, we should acknowledge our guilt and shame, observe them, and reframe them as part of God’s story of grace.
